After five seasons, Dr. Max Goodwin’s tenure at New Amsterdam has come to an end.
The NBC medical drama—which aired its series finale on January 17—ends with a tearful twist after Ryan Eggold’s Max left his position as medical director to work at the World Health Organization in Geneva.
The episode sporadically introduces the unnamed Max’s replacement leading up to his final day in the hospital, but it is not until the final scene that it is revealed that the woman taking his place is actually his eldest daughter, Luna, in the future. . Now, New Amsterdam production operator David Schulner and Peter Horton is breaking up the final episode and revealing the surprising inspiration for the climactic ending.
