Nauticam reveals case for Nikon Z8
Less than 24 hours since Nikon announced the new feature Z8but Nauticam announced that its underwater housing for full-frame mirrorless cameras now available for pre-order—and shipping will begin next month! Like the Z8 which is significantly smaller than the Z9Nauticam’s new NA-Z8 case looks very similar to the smaller form factor camera cases that compete with the Z8, such as NA-A7RV for Sony a7R DRAW and NA-R5 for Canon EOS R5.
As usual with the Nauticam, ergonomics is a priority and you get all the important controls within reach of the integrated handles; and you have the option to pair the case with any of Nauticam’s line of “water contact optics”, including WACP-1 And WACP-CORE wide-angle and close-up conversion lenses SMC-1 and SMC-2. You can also use both original Z-mount lenses and legacy F-mount lenses via Nikon’s FTZ adapter. Like the Nauticam case for the Z9, the NA-Z8 has an M24 baffle to mount an external monitor/recorder like Atomic Ninja/Ninja V+ via HDMI 2.0.
The NA-Z8 has an MSRP of $4,832 and can be pre-ordered right now.

PRESS RELEASE
Introducing the NA-Z8
NIKON Z8
The excitement for the Nikon Z8 rivals is the launch of the Nikon D850. Nikon photography enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for this “mini” Z9 to turn out. The D850 has long dominated Nikon for its incredible image quality, incredible autofocus, and wide dynamic range, all in one high-resolution package. While the Z6/7 and Z9 come in a variety of specs, the Z8 is the system many D850 shooters have been waiting for.
The Nikon Z8 features a 45.7MP stacked CMOS sensor that delivers incredible motion and still image performance. The Z8’s electronic shutter means that continuous shooting is truly zero when using the camera’s EVF, and the many autofocus options ensure there’s the right mode for every situation.
For videographers, the Z8 can internally record up to 8K/60p or 4K/120p oversampling in the ultra-efficient 12-bit N-RAW format or a variety of ProRes formats including ProRes RAW. The Z8 also adds professional video features like waveform monitor, focus focus and the ability to fine-tune ISO in steps of 1/6EV. There’s also a ‘Show Video Info’ and a nifty Red Record Outline.
NAUTICAM NA-Z8
The Nauticam NA-Z8 is the most intuitive and reliable underwater case for the Nikon Z8. Building on successful and tried-and-true designs for the NA-Z6/7 and Z9 cases, the NA-Z8 embodies Nauticam’s Mission Control design philosophy, putting essential controls within easy reach. ease of reinforced molded handles.
Compatible with F and Z . mounts
The NA-Z8 Underwater Case for Nikon Z8 uses the N120 Port System for Z-mount full-frame lenses. However, the NA-Z8 is also designed to accommodate the use of F-mount lenses, thanks to an adapter exchange FTZs. This allows for the same port configuration as on an F-mount DSLR system such as the NA-D6 or NA-D850.
The NA-Z8 case is equipped with convenient lens release buttons for both the F and Z mounts, making lens changes a breeze, regardless of the lens mount. You can quickly and easily switch between different lenses without having to remove the camera from the housing, unless an FTZ adapter is attached or removed.
Advanced viewfinder
The electronic viewfinder continuously achieves higher resolution and better dynamic range, and the Z8 features a 0.5″ 3690k-dot OLED viewfinder.Pair the Z8’s EVF with Nauticam’s Advanced Full Frame Viewfinder for unlimited viewing entire EVF in straight or angle configuration. The additional working distance from the back of the case helps to create a more natural and comfortable position underwater.
Premium professional optics
Nauticam’s line of optics ensures the sharpest, most natural underwater images whether it’s a super close-up or a wide-angle shot. The wide-angle conversion lens WACP-1 works perfectly with the Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 lens to deliver an impressive 130º field of view at 28mm and 83º at 48mm. Minimum focus distance ~0″ and small front element make composition and lighting easier. Those looking for a more compact system can enjoy the new WACP-C with Sony lenses. The SEL2870 28-70mm f3.5-5.6 OSS plus the Megadap ETZ 21 provides full zoom and a field of view from 130º to 59º.
Want greater than 1:1 magnification with unmatched sharpness? The SMC-1 and SMC-2 provide 2.2x and 3.6x magnifications with the Nikkor Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S Macro, respectively, and can be easily mounted with the Nauticam flip system allowing deployment fast as well as safe and accurate layout of the optic.
HDMI output
The Nikon Z8 promises clear, full-resolution HDMI output using the HDMI Type-A connector, and the M24 baffled NA-Z8 can accommodate an HDMI 2.0 connection to a monitor/recorder such as the Atomos Ninja5+ in the NA-Ninja5 shell.
Built-in leak detection and vacuum test system
The Nauticam vacuum test and leak detection system comes with the NA-Z8 as standard equipment. Combined with the accessory vacuum valve (PN 25624), this monitoring system provides continuously updated information on the watertightness and diving safety of the housing. A simple color-coded LED lighting system lets the user know that the vacuum is a solid or that the shell is losing its vacuum. Leak detection is integrated in the same circuit, so if there is water ingress, an audible and visual indication will appear. The Nauticam system is temperature compensated, eliminating false alarms due to changes in the outside temperature or from the camera heating up during high-action diving.
