Mustang GT3 racer takes part in stable Blue Oval at Le Mans

Ford Performance has welcomed another racing Mustang to the barn.

Revealed at the 24 Heures du Mans at Circuit de la Sarthe in France, the latest Mustang will take on rivals from BMW, Ferrari, McLaren and Audi in the FIA GT3 category from next year.

The power of the GT3 comes from a version of the Coyote V8 engine that is serving in the Mustang Supercar race in Australia. It has a capacity of 5.4 liters and the bodywork is made of carbon fiber as you would expect.

It is made by Multimatic, the Canadian company responsible for the production of the Ford GT that won the category at Le Mans 2018.

There’s a bespoke “short-arm” suspension under the hood, along with an aggressive aerodynamics package that can be tailored to wherever in the world a team is racing.

Another new feature of the Mustang GT3 is the Ford Performance logo designed by Troy Lee.

Ford showed off similar GT3, GT4, NASCAR and NHRA Factory X versions of its latest Mustang at launch.

Ford also said the newly designed models will debut in the NASCAR Cup series and the NHRA Factory X race in the “coming years”.

The new Mustang is currently racing in Australia, facing off against the Chevrolet Camaro in the 2023 Supercar season.
