Now, there is an update to make the proposal multi-lane free flow (MLFF) toll system. Expected to be implemented in 2025, it has been reported that a the study will be carried out in 2024 and will take between a year and a half to two years to complete.
That timeline has now been moved forward. According to works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the government will conduct a proof of concept (POC) for the MLFF before the end of October 2023 to evaluate the system – in which RM3.46 billion has been allocated – before it was implemented for all highways in the country.
“The position of this POC is currently being negotiated and will be finalized in the near future,” he said. Last month, he said that a pilot project would give authorities and vendors the ability to check for technical and legal issues, and provide a means to test multi-payments. methods through various digital payment providers.
With the pilot project underway ahead of schedule, it looks like the timeline is the same. In February, the minister of works indicated that the government aims to put the system in place by 2025, and this was repeated in his statement today, this time with a specified date. “The full implementation of the MLFF will be done in phases no later than the third quarter of 2024,” he said.
