Mount Sinai, Montefiore nurses approve contract with increased salary

The Mount Sinai deal also includes a 19% increase over three years; safe staff ratio close to the wall for all units, new HR implementation language; the possibility of financial penalties if the hospital fails to maintain its staffing ratio; and health care benefits are preserved.

According to NYSNA, which represents about 17,000 nurses in the city and 42,000 nurses across the state, the nurses completed voting on their contracts Wednesday at Mount Sinai and Friday in Montefiore. Of both groups of nurses, 98% voted to approve their contracts.

NYSNA President Nancy Hagans said it will take time for the contract standards to take effect and that the provisions will become the new standard enforced by the state Department of Health.

Of the 12 private hospitals where NYSNA nurses began negotiating new contracts in September, only Interfaith Medical Center and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center are still in negotiations.
