MotoGP thrills and full of life in FP2 at Mandalika
MotoGP 2022 – Round two
Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia – Friday
After seemingly struggling to defend FP1, Champ Fabio Quartararo made a comeback in FP2 to finish the fastest on Friday while his teammate Franco Morbidelli took down Yamaha 1-2.
That happened despite a technical problem with Quartararo early in the session with the YZR-M1 stalling on the track and forcing the young Frenchman to push the car through a gravel trap before getting a handcart. throttle back to the pit. Maybe that frustration got him injured because that late attack put him at the top of the timesheets…
Johann Zarco is once again the fastest Ducati, this time overtaking Jorge Martin, Enea Bastianini and Jack Miller to become the Ducati 3-4-5-6. Factory driver Pecco Bagnaia though ended the session down at P21 after being stopped by the yellow flags late in the session as first-round winner Enea Bastianini joined Marc Marquez in late-session.
Aleix Espargaro continued to show good pace to finish sixth seventh fastest ahead of Red Bull KTM duo Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira while Alex Rins made the top 10.
After a high rating in FP1, the Repsol Honda duo picked up the pace in FP2, after topping the morning session Pol Espargaro as P19 in FP2 while Marc Marquez also fell behind a lot of rookies in P22!
Marc had a couple of big high-speed rear slips in the first ten minutes of the session which he saved well. That trend continued throughout the session, with Marc never really wanting a stable bike, setup issues or experimenting with limited grip with a hot 27 lap distance goal. on Sunday…? Marquez finished second for half the session but then slipped down the order as the rest of the field improved later in the session when, in the fascinating seconds of the session, he slipped without him. could be saved, as a result he slipped through a gravel trap at high speed… He walks but one would imagine he will be a little sore and sorry when he wakes up tomorrow…
Takaaki Nakagami topped Honda in P12, just behind Andrea Dovizioso.

Jake Dixon left his mark on the first day of the Indonesian Grand Prix with the fastest time in the middle class. The British driver completed two quick laps in a row, 1:36,380 first and 1:35,897 later, giving him the lead on his second training session of the day and finishing his first free session as hand. fastest racing Moto2.
Inde’s GASGAS Team rider Aspar praised the Indonesian track, as he thinks it suits his riding style. At the Mandalika circuit, Dixon showed his potential and he looks forward to doing it again both tomorrow, in qualifying practice and on Sunday in the race.
Dixon led a session in which Qatari Grand Prix winner Celestino Vietti finished second and compatriot Sam Lowes finished third.
Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was fined Long Lap during Sunday’s race for crashing his car while disrespecting a yellow flag during FP2.
Jake Dixon – P1
“Good first day. The track is amazing, the layout suits my style, I like the fast corners. The bike was amazing too, I can’t say enough about it. When you have a bike underneath you, you can really show your potential. The team allows me to do that. I think, as the season goes on, we will be really strong. I feel incredible today, but we need to keep working: I’m fast today, but we need to continue tomorrow and Sunday. I still have some work to do, I feel like there are some areas where I can improve, but the first day, I’m really happy.”
Celestino Vietti – P2
“We also had a very good start in Indonesia and I am happy: it feels very similar to Qatar. I like the track, the asphalt is very special and the T1, the only one that has been plastered after the tests, is very different from the rest of the track. Overall it feels very good, we were able to try both in the dry and wet zones, I struggled a bit in the second zone, but we were able to take a step towards qualifying .”
