Al and Bill Ulwelling’s Purebred Velocitor Became the First Winner for Freshman Boars Mor Spirit when he broadcasts a seven-and-a-half-long field of maidens in the second race at Honeysuckle June 30.
Rated as the favorite in the five-feathers special weight class on the Tapeta main track, Velocitor soon took the lead under jockey Rafael Hernandez, eliminating the races. his opponent in the first leg and appeared unchallenged up front. The 2-year-old foal, which finished second in his May 29 debut under the same conditions, stops the timer at: 58.55.
Ontario was bred, trained by Kevin Attard, as the fourth foal of the winning horses Successful protest mare Polar Plunge. A half-sister to the 3rd grade winner in Canada’s Shakopee Town, the Polar Plunge is the dam of two winners from four ponies in the race. Her youngest child is the fully avid sister of the Velocitor and she has been reported to have been bred with Frosted .
Mor Spirit is a 9-year-old son who has won many prizes in the 1st grade of Eskendereya . Mobilized by Michael Lund Petersen and coached by Bob Baffert, Mor Spirit was sharp, capturing Los Alamitos Futurity (G1) as a child before merging with the Mohegan Sun Metropolitan Handicap (G1) at the age of four. At the Metropolitan, he shaded 1:34 for the mile while scoring 6 1/4 of the length. He retired with a 6-5-0 record in 14 career starts and earned $1,668,400.
He stands at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington for a fee of $5,000 in 2022.
