Monday Night Football: Brady and Bucs return to victory with victory over the Giants
The 44-year-old also avoided three consecutive losses for the first time since 2002.
It was the 104th time in Brady’s career that he finished with more than 300 yards passing. Only Drew Brees with 123 has had more such games in NFL history.
After Tampa Bay’s disappointing Week 10 loss to the Washington Soccer Team, Brady cut a frustrated character during his post-game press conference.
On Monday night, however, the veteran quarterback looked much more satisfied.
He added: “We’re at a good point, but we can play a lot better than we’ve played. Hopefully our best football is ahead.”
A record 300 pounds evening
After two poor performances, Monday night got off to a much better start for the Bucs.
Brady connected with Chris Godwin on a 13-yard touchdown in the first half to give the home team an early lead.
However, a second-quarter interception by the former New England Patriots defender allowed New York to equalize.
Giants defender Daniel Jones hit the ball for attacking striker Andrew Thomas to make it 10-10, but the Bucs turned the game around from there.
Brady was near-perfect for the rest of the game, and the Tampa Bay defense blocked the Giants’ attack.
Jones was fired twice and threw two interceptions to Steve McLendon and Mike Edwards while Ronald Jones ran in the third of Tampa Bay’s touchdown.
It was a particularly important game for the Bucs’ wide receiver Mike Evans, who – when he caught a 5m TD pass from Brady – made his name in the team’s history books.
Evans could add the record to his growing resume of Tampa Bay all-time records.
He held the Bucs franchise records for receptions, yards received, touchdowns, and 100-yard picks.
He also has a one-season record for yards and touches and is tied for the most overall touchdowns in a season.
He now has 10 touchdowns for the year, the fourth time in eight NFL seasons he’s hit double figures in that category.
