Microsoft is now officially testing Notepad with tabs for Windows 11

American technology corporation Microsoft has officially started testing tabs in Notepad for Windows 11 after an employee of the company previously accidentally leaked information.

According to The Verge, an American technology news website, in the Notepad update for Windows Insiders, in the Dev Channel, the tabs are now visible.

Notepad’s tab support allows users to open multiple files in a single window, similar to how Microsoft Implemented tabs in File Explorer in Windows 11.

“There are also new keyboard shortcuts to support managing tabs, as well as some improvements to managing unsaved files, such as automatically generating filenames/tab titles based on the content and the unsaved change indicator is refreshed,” explains Dave Grochocki, product management lead at Microsoft, The Verge.

After Microsoft added tabs to File Explorer last year, Notepad was the first built-in app with a tabbed interface. The company first tested tabs across all Windows 10 apps in a feature called Sets almost 5 years ago.

This would add tab support for Notepad, File Explorer, and many other apps, but Microsoft dropped the project and never released it to Windows 10 users.

In addition to Notepad tab support, Microsoft is updating the graphics settings page in Windows 11. This includes GPU preference settings, automatic HDR, and windowed game optimization, according to The Verge.
