College football Playoff odds, Big Ten championship odds, Heisman Trophy odds. Michigan‘s nasty blowout of Ohio State did a single number on all three markets on Saturday afternoon.
The werewolves picked up 21 points in the fourth inning to turn a slim 24-20 scoreline into a 45-23 scoreline against arch-rivals the Buckeyes. And Michigan did so as the team trailing 8.5 points by consensus, shocking the Ohio State’s huge crowd at Horseshoe.
What does that mean for all of the aforementioned odds markets? Let’s go there.
Did the Big Ten pass through Ann Arbor?
Should the Big Ten go through Ann Arbor instead of Columbus after Ohio State lost to Michigan?
Michigan moves up to 2nd place
First of all, after the past three weeks of being placed in 3rd place on the college football national championship odds table – and in the CFP rankings – Michigan is now a +275 second pick to win at BetMGM.
That’s what makes BetMGM sports trader Seamus Magee so frustrated.
“Ohio State is a big winner for us in the national championship and the Big Ten market,” Magee said. “We’re going to need a disappointment in Indianapolis to save us some money.”
Michigan’s opponent in the December 3 Big 10 tilt is yet to be determined. Regardless, Michigan will be the favorite to win and advance to the CFP.
Speak Bet FOX Transaction operations associate Matthew Griffe on Michigan-Ohio State results:
“This game is basically a College Football League knockout and all but guarantees Michigan’s spot in the four finals, assuming a win in the Big Ten championship next week. next – likely against Michigan. Purduewith Iowaloss for Nebraska. Michigan will open as a favorite, no matter how the game plays out. Odds are against Purdue, and the line will open Michigan -13.5.”
FOX Bet also puts Michigan second pick +250 in the college football national championship odds market, just behind the favorite Georgia (-160).
Amnesty Alabama?
Defending national champion Georgia (12-0) remains the favorite to win at BetMGM, with a margin of -160. But with Michigan beating Ohio State so convincingly, guess who’s still not quite dead – and in fact, quite alive?
If you guess Alabamathen step up and claim your prize.
“Alabama will be re-entering the championship race, as it looks like there’s a real path back for the Crimson Tide,” Magee said.
The Crimson Tide was 9-2 when they played Auburn in the Iron Bowl. Assuming the Crimson Tide win – they are a 22-point favorite at home – BetMGM already has them as the +2000 fifth pick in the odds to win the CFP. Any negligence by Michigan, TCU or USCand Tides can roll right in.
TCU (11-0) and USC (10-1) are now over 1000 tie-in picks on BetMGM’s CFP championship odds table. The Horned Frogs are playing Iowa State, while USC hosts Notre Dame on Saturday night.
In fact, Alabama’s odds are better LSU‘s (+4000), even though the Tigers are in the running for the SEC championship. That’s because LSU – assuming it wins on Saturday night at Texas A&M – will have to beat the Bulldogs in the SEC final to enter the CFP. Oddmakers don’t see that happening.
Buckeyes went bankrupt
Although Ohio State (11-1) lost only one game, WynnBet senior trader Motoi Pearson sees no CFP path for the Buckeyes.
“If Ohio State were a little more competitive towards the end [vs. Michigan]The Buckeyes could have had an outside hit to win the fourth seed,” Pearson said. “But in an overtime game, it looks like the Big Ten could take a spot against Michigan.”
WynnBet will update its CFP championship odds on Sunday, and chances are – as has happened elsewhere – Ohio State won’t even be on the table.
“Georgia has taken care of its business and should be the clear No. 1 seed. USC, TCU and Oregon all are in dispute,” said Pearson.Clemson suffered another defeat that affected its chances, even with the ACC title. We will see how the market forms later today.”
Clemson, the home team got 14.5 points first South Carolinalost 31-30 to lose 10-2.
Seismic Heisman Teleport
Michigan not only leveled Ohio State’s title hopes, but also potentially Buckeyes quarterback CJ Stroud‘s Heisman Trophy also hope. Stroud made two interceptions in the fourth quarter that helped determine the fate of Ohio State.
Now, USC QB Caleb William top of the Heisman Trophy odds class. Prior to Ohio State’s loss, Williams was second pick +110 in FOX Bet’s Heisman win rate. After the Buckeyes’ loss, Williams shot to the -1500 favorite to claim the trophy.
Stroud fell from -133 match favorites to +3000 later.
“The Heisman race is now focused on USC QB Caleb Williams,” Griffe said. “A competent performance in comparison. Notre Dame tonight put him on virtual lockdown after CJ Stroud’s fourth quarter and the Ohio State loss.”
As of 4:30 p.m. ET Saturday, BetMGM has not reposted the Heisman odds, but there is no doubt about the leader.
“We’ll see Caleb Williams take a leap forward in Heisman’s odds against Stroud,” Magee said.
Two weeks ago, Stroud was the +130 favorite pick at BetMGM, while Williams was the +1100 fourth pick, with Tennessee qb Hendon prostitute (+300) and Michigan run again Blake Corum (+600) in second and third place respectively.
A week ago – with Corum and Hooker injured, and moreover, Hooker’s Vols knocked out in South Carolina – Stroud moved into negative territory as a -130 favorite, and Williams jumped to +125.
Now, Williams has the edge. But WynnBet’s Pearson warns that it’s not over yet.
“Watch out for performances from [TCU’s] Max Dugan and [Oregon’s] Bo Nix. A lot can still happen in this race,” Pearson said.
