MG’s classic rally response concept breaks the cover


MG revealed its attractiveness EX4 concept car right before its premiere at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

After releasing some shaded trailers earlier this month, the company turned on the lights and gave us a better look at the electric hot hatch, which pays homage to the MG Metro race car The iconic 6R4 Group B from the 1980s.

It is based on MG 4 XSPowerwill also debut live at Goodwood along with computerand share a dual-motor four-wheel drive system with 320 kW of power and 600 Nm of torque.

MG claims to have designed the EX4 concept in London, with paint colors designed specifically for Goodwood.

The teasers show off a number of weird body-worn add-ons including a front splitter, wider wheel arches, and a huge rear spoiler.

While the EX4 is just a concept car, the regular MG 4 XPower is “under consideration” to join the production lineup in Australia near the MG 4’s launch in the second half of 2023.

As noted above, the MG 4 XPower’s dual-motor all-wheel drive setup produces 320kW and 600Nm. It features torque-direction and a start-up mode that allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

The MG 4 XPower features “a comprehensive range of suspension upgrades”, including re-tuned springs and dampers, stiffer anti-roll bars and more responsive steering. The overall stiffness of the suspension is said to be increased by 25%.

There are “subtle” exterior tweaks including orange XPower brake calipers, a black two-tone roof, 18-inch alloy wheels, and glossy decorative accents. There is also an exclusive Racing Green exterior paint option.

It’s not the only high-performance MG coming out.

Originally revealed a few months ago, the MG Cyberster will rival the upcoming products Porsche Boxster electric.

Cyberster is confirmed to arrive in Australia, although the local department has not announced a date when it will arrive.

MG has yet to release any technical details about the Cyberster, although a filing by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has filled in some gaps.

It lists a single-engine rear-wheel drive drivetrain with 213kW, as well as a two-motor four-wheel drive system boasting a front-axle motor with 150kW and a rear-axle motor with 250kW.

Top speed is 193 km/h in the single-engine variant and 200 km/h in the dual-engine version.

MG engineers confirmed The Cyberster will deliver a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 2.6 seconds.

It’s unclear how large the lithium-ion battery pack in the Cyberster is, or what type of battery it offers.
