While MG is just now Start selling ZS in places like MalaysiaThe company is moving forward with a new second-generation model. The recently revealed B-segment SUV promises to be a game-changer in terms of technology, comfort, and performance.

That may be so, but while its larger HS sibling – also in its second generation – has been given a significant redesign that seems to usher in a new era for the brand, the new ZS still appears to be cut from the same cloth as previous MGs. In fact, the car looks almost identical First HS (including the F48 BMW X1 style rear end), except MG3new large octagonal grille.

The interior, however, has been completely overhauled, with a much more modern dashboard featuring trapezoidal air vents and a minimalist center console with a flat gear selector. On-board technology includes a seven-inch digital instrument cluster display and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation, live services, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In the UK, the ZS will come with a full suite of driver assistance features as standard, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring and traffic jam assist.

Currently, only the Hybrid+ model has been revealed so far, combining a 102 PS/128 Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 136 PS/250 Nm electric motor and a 1.83 kWh battery, giving a total system output of 196 PS and 465 Nm of torque. Equipped in this way, the ZS will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds, while achieving fuel consumption as low as 5.1 litres per 100 km on the WLTP cycle.

Details about other variants have not been released, but the Australian portal Car expert reports that the petrol variants will come to Australia first, followed by this Hybrid+ and a replacement for the ZS EV next year. There’s no word on when the car will arrive in Malaysia, but we’d assume it’s still quite a while away, as the upcoming ZS EV has only just been launched here.
