Ford F-Series: One will be sold every 49 seconds in 2022

Ford it is estimated to have sold at least 640,000 F series pickup truck by 2022 in the United States, which means it will once again become the best-selling vehicle in the United States.

The F-Series range includes the mass-selling F-150, including an all-electric Lightning variant, as well as significantly more powerful Super Duty models, spanning the F-250 to the F-600.

This marks the 46th year in a row the F-Series is the best-selling pickup truck in America. The F-Series was also the best-selling vehicle in America for 41 years.

These records and numbers are impressive, so let’s dig deeper.

Although the F-Series has held the crown for another year, it’s still far from reaching its peak. Back in 2018 and 2019, before the pandemic broke out, Ford was selling about 900,000 F-Series models a year.

This has dropped to 787,422 in 2020 and 726,004 in 2021. The preliminary 2022 figure given by Ford means the F-Series is down 12% year-over-year.

Much of this decline can be attributed to global supply chain issues that have affected most industries. The monthly sales figures seem to be holding up well through the end of the year, so it’s unclear what has impacted inflation, rising interest rates and the overall economic situation right now.

By word number Car salesThe last time fewer than 650,000 F-Series trucks were sold each year was in 2012. Ford’s modern low was in 2009 when only 413,625 F-Series models found new owners following the mortgage crisis. substandard causes many companies to struggle. bankruptcies, including rivals GM and Chrysler.

Depending on your thoughts on badge engineering, you could argue GM’s full-size pickup trucks deserve the crown in terms of U.S. sales in 2022.

Although GM has yet to provide any figures, we think combined sales of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra will be around 700,000 units, 60,000 more than the F-Series.

Since the pandemic hit, the Silverado and Sierra have cumulatively outsold the F-Series with 778,689 units delivered in 2021 and 848,200 units in 2020. Prior to that, the F-Series outsold the GM twins in all the 2010s.

As for the Ram pickup, we expect it to reach sales of around 480,000 units by 2022.
