As a Royal Knight of Solm, Merrin is a subordinate of Princess Timerra. In Fire Emblem joinsMerrin is described as having an “elegant” personality and she strives to achieve “fancy” in her everyday life.

Merrin ponders how she became a knight of Timerra. She said she ran away from home because she refused to be her next village chief. Instead, she wished to become a knight. Timerra comments that she must be a tomboy, but Merrin replies that she hasn’t always been, until one day she meets a “real” tomboy riding a wolf. Timerra admits that Merrin was referring to her.
True to her lie, Merrin began Fire Emblem joins as the Wolf Knight, a new riding class in the series. The Wolf Knight is highly mobile and can dash around the battlefield with his dagger to disrupt enemy formations.
