Mercedes-Benz Malaysia to launch more PHEVs soon – W214 E350e this year, X254 GLC350e will be back?
The launch of Mercedes Benz C350e The start of this year is just the beginning of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s (MBM) efforts to add more plug-in hybrid vehicles to its lineup, according to President and CEO Amanda Zhang.
Speaking at Mercedes-Benz World Event Zhang said today that the company plans to launch more such models “soon” to join the electric compact luxury sedan segment, as well as S580e and AMG GT63S E Performance.
No details have been revealed yet, but we expect the next model to launch with The long-awaited arrival of the W214 E-Class. E300e has has been sold in Thailand since the beginning of this year, known as the E350e and equipped with a 204 PS/350 Nm M264 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, along with a 129 PS/440 Nm electric motor located between the engine and the 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission.
Total system output is rated at 313 PS and 550 Nm, enough to get the E350e from 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 0.5-0.8 litres per 100 km, while the 25.4 kWh battery provides an all-electric range of 97-115 km on a single charge.
Another possibility is GLC350e (again, known as the GLC300e elsewhere in the world), has the same powertrain – albeit a slightly slower 0-62 mph time of 6.7 seconds – but has a larger 31.2 kWh battery for a range of 64 to 75 miles.
The company has ruling out the possibility of a locally assembled PHEV version of the latest X254 GLC, but that was last year under the management of Zhang’s predecessor, Sagree Sardien. The change in leadership could come with a change in direction, especially since the GLC350e is already on sale in neighboring Thailand and Singapore.
