McLaren chooses V8 hybrid engine instead of electrification
While most of the auto industry works to capture and grow tram, not every automaker is in such a hurry to jump into that race. Take a look at classic supercar maker McLaren. While companies like Lamborghini have announced their the death of their gas-powered V12sMcLaren has decision that the company will Work on next generation of the ICE hybrid engine.
In case you lost it:
Through multiAfter a year of cooperation with French engine supplier Ricardo, McLaren is working on a new generation of V6 and V8 hybrid engines. McLaren says these new engines will appear in the company’s next generation of supercars, including some like yet-Current models have not been named. The deal will see another investment in McLaren’s Shoreham facility with more than 100 engineers and technicians brought in to build the powertrain.
Ricardo and McLaren first cooperation 2011 with 12C. That car was powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 that was developed in-house between the two companies. In the 12 years since, McLaren says more than 34,000 engines have been produced by the two companies.
While it does not know what car (or vehicle) this engine is working, we know that McLaren is next work-leading generation The supercar in which this hybrid engine is supposed to be used. As for why the company isn’t developing super EVs or powertrains, it seems that McLaren’s CEO doesn’t think they’re particularly interested in supercars.
Speaking at the FT Future of the Car Summit, walkie talkie reports McLaren CEO Michael Leiters doesn’t think EV technology is advanced enough to deliver the driving performance McLaren has come to expect due to the weight of the battery.
“Today, battery technology is still immature. If you play sports, if you want to enjoy the weekend, if you go to a racetrack, it’s still not the right technology.” he say.
While it’s great to see the company will be one of the few companies left in the world to still produce V8 ICE engines for the foreseeable future, it doesn’t look like fans who want a McLaren EV won’t be any time soon. to be seen.
