Maxi Hughes Vs Kid Galahad Is In The Works

An all-Yorkshire match between Maxi Hughes (25-5-2, 5 KOs) and Kid Galahad (28-2, 17 KOs) will take place this summer, with the IBO lightweight belt.

Boxing Social understands that Matchroom, the promoter of the match, has inquired about the possibility of matchmaking.

For now, the most significant obstacle on the way to a fight’s outcome is that Hughes remains optimistic about securing a clash with Ryan Garcia.

Hughes is frequently mentioned as a potential competitor to America’s rapidly rising prospects, but there are rumors that Javier Fortuna is the next man for Garcia.

If Gacia decides to face Fortuna, then Kid Galahad could be the most lucrative option for Hughes. Eddie Hearn has previously stated that he hopes to secure a big fight for ‘Maximus’ after Hughes put together a six-match winning streak to change the trajectory of his career. Last September, Southpaw turned the odds to win the IBO lightweight belt against Jovanni Straffon.

If the fight goes on, Kid Galahad will jump up two weight classes for a chance. Ingle Gym suffered a horrendous defeat to Kiko Martinez in his first IBF featherweight title defense, last November.

At 32, Galahad has no interest in adjusting the game and is eager to take on his Yorkshire rival. An interesting side story surrounding the match is that Hughes is Josh Warrington’s gym buddy, who won a controversial decision against Galahad as the pair competed for the IBF 126lbs world title.

The big domestic wits got on late into the hour and Hughes and Galahad are likely to make for an intriguing contest.
