Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is a beautiful electric convertible with 818 horsepower
After launching the all-electric product line with SUV Grecale Folgore And GranTurismo Folgore coupe, Maserati is expanding its electric vehicle range with its first battery-powered convertible: the GranCabrio Folgore. The open-top version of the electric GranTurismo takes the title of fastest open-top electric car on the market thanks to its top speed of 180 mph – and it’s one of the only open-top electric models of the period.
GranCabrio Folgore’s 800-volt powertrain just like what you’ll find in the GranTurismo EV, although the hardtop can reach speeds of around 200 mph. The convertible is powered by three engines – one in the front and two in the rear – generating a total of 818 horsepower. The motor uses silicon carbide inverter technology Maserati was dropped from the Formula E team. This means off-road acceleration is brisk, with the GranCabrio Folgore reaching 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds.
To stop all that speed, the car is equipped with a braking system from Maserati MC20. This means there’s an aluminum brake caliper that the brand says offers performance during high-speed riding as well as comfort when you’re covering long distances. They also mean the car can stop from 62 mph in less than 120 feet.
EQUAL with GranTurismo Folgore, the 92.5 kWh battery pack is placed in a T-shape on the belly of the car. Maserati says this helps keep the GranCabrio’s ride height low, at just over 53 inches on the road. Setting up the battery this way also helps distribute weight and improve handling.
GranCabrio Folgore that is Capable of covering up to 278 miles about the European WLTP cycle, more optimistic than the US EPA cycle. When it’s time to top up, Maserati says you’ll be able to add up to 62 miles of range in just five minutes, and at certain DC chargers, you’ll be able to boost the GranCabrio Folgore from 20 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.
But this is a Maserati convertible, so it’s not just about charging times and battery packs. Like the previous generation, the new GranCabrio has fabric roofcan be folded up and down with just the press of a button or the wave of your hand thanks to gesture control.
It does that in about 18 seconds and folds into a snug compartment in the back, still leaving space for two passengers in the back. It doesn’t either eat into your luggage room too much and the GranCabrio has more than 5 cubic feet of trunk space.
Inside, there are all the amenities you would expect from a luxury electric vehicle. Hence, there is a new type of fabric made from recycled nylon from things like fishing nets to decorate seats. There are also leather options and some very interesting color combinations like the white and blue you see here.
The car’s interior trim includes neat carbon fiber weaves that include real copper threads to show off The importance of metals in the electric age. The seats can also be designed with bronze patterns laser-etched into the fabric, and Maserati’s Fuoriserie customization program allows buyers to customize the car to fit their wildest dreams.
There’s no word yet on pricing or potential volumes per year, but Maserati is committed to producing less than market demand each year to maintain a high level of electric vehicle exclusivity.
