Manny Pacquiao denies intention to return to pro after exhibition
Manny Pacquiao has made it clear he won’t be boxing anymore – at least not competing.
The 43-year-old turned his back on the sport last August after he lost to Yordenis Ugas for the WBA WBA Welterweight title.
Pacquiao, a multi-division champion in his day, focused on the presidential election in his home country but the Filipinos failed to gather enough votes to win.
And now the legend of the game is planning to fight a Youtuber.
DK Yoo, of South Korea, will be in the opposite corner for six two-minute rounds as Pacquiao fights.
While talking to RapplerPacquiao says:
“I just want to work hard and make sure my status is 100%”, “Even though this is just a charity event to help people, we will still prepare as if it were a match compete for the championship.”
The event taking place on December 11 is planned to raise funds for victims of the war in Ukraine and homeless families in the Philippines. Pacquiao added:
“I organized this exhibition to help more of those in need, so we can continue to give homes to fellow countrymen who are not yet home.”
“I’ve had a lot of Pacman Villages started, but not finished yet. The income from this war will be used for more houses.”
Pacquiao, who will meet Yoo without a weight limit, has been enjoying a quiet life since finishing third in the presidential election but was recently spotted in Barcelona. Reports of the possibility that he will retire after that appearance have increased, but ‘Pacman’ has now paid the price for any idea of a return.
