Man United’s Luke Shaw regrets playing due to injury

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw said that he should not have played in the match against them Luton Town in February when he injured his hamstring as he raced against the clock to be match fit Englandopening match of the European Championship against Serbia on June 16.

England coach Gareth Southgate said earlier this week that he was taking a “gamble” in selecting Shaw for your team.

The 28-year-old, who has been at United for a decade, said he was disappointed that fans questioned his commitment to the club after being selected for the England squad after playing just 15 games for United last season.

“If the manager asked me to play, I would never say ‘no’. But I shouldn’t have played [at Luton]“, Shaw said. “It’s everyone’s fault. Partly it’s my fault, partly it’s my fault [United] Healthcare staff.

“I came back too quickly and I ended up with another hamstring injury… I tried to do everything I could to recover in time for United.”

Asked if he would play against Serbia in Group C on June 16, Shaw said: “It doesn’t really affect me. We just go day by day, see how I feel in training.

“I really want to make the first game, but I don’t want to rush it too much because realistically I only have one chance. If I feel something then that’s it. I don’t want that to happen.”

Shaw added that England lost 0-1 to Iceland in their final Euro warm-up match on Friday could be a blessing in disguise for the team. “This might be the best thing that happened to us,” he said.

“That made us realize that getting to Germany will not be an easy journey. The whole team will need a lot of determination to do it.”
