Man United protest: Why are Manchester United fans protesting against the Glazers and what are the plans vs Liverpool?

Manchester United are scheduled to meet Liverpool on Monday, but a cloud of protest surrounds the Premier League derby. Man United fans lined up to protest against the home team.

It was a time when United were bottom of the table after losing their first two games of the season – to Brighton and Hove Albion, and to Brentford.

Furthermore, United have lost four straight league games (measured by losses in the last two of last season) for the first time since February 1979.

It also fell to 7 consecutive away defeats for the first time since 10 consecutive away defeats from September to December 1936.

Why are Manchester United fans protesting?

Protest fans are unhappy with the way the club is managed by its owners, the Glazer family. The Glazers are American and have a taste for real estate.

After the Glazers took over the club in 2005 (two years after they started buying shares), United fell into debt of £550m almost overnight.

The burden of repayment is split between Man United and Red Football, an investment firm used by the family to buy out the club.

The debt skyrocketed to £700 million in 2010. According to the latest financial statements, the club’s debt was £495.7 million.
