Malaysia-Thailand land border to open April 1 for tourists
The Malaysian government has announced that Thailand will open its land border with Malaysia starting April 1, although the opening is only for tourists at the moment. Malay Letters reported. Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that for now, daily travel is still being discussed between the Malaysian and Thai governments.
“The Thai government is only willing to accept recreational tourists. Discussions are still underway between Malaysia and Thailand [on the matter of] daily commuters and frequent travelers. For visitors from Thailand, the general travel process that Malaysia currently applies will apply,” said the Health Minister.
Only two land borders between the countries will be open from April 1, and that is the Bukit Kayu Hitam-Sadao and Wang Kelian-Wang Prachan border.
Earlier, Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said that Thailand is working closely with relevant agencies to reopen all land border crossings with Malaysia on May 1.
