Louisiana man saves 13 kittens, instantly becoming ‘America’s cat dad’

A Louisiana man has made headlines on social media after he saved not one but 13 kittens he discovered on the side of a country road.

Robert Brantley, a professional marksman, was walking towards the shooting range when he spotted a gray and white kitten.

“Passed by a kitten that I knew wouldn’t make it through the night and the wife was wanting a cat for the farm; thought I would stop and rescue things,” he wrote on Instagram.

He recorded what happened next. The little kitten ran right up to Brantley, crying like crazy, begging for help.

Suddenly, two more kittens stepped out from the tall grass, then a crowd of kittens followed.

“Oh no, oh my! I can’t marry you, oh my god more! We have a kitten problem,” said Brantley as the kittens surrounded him.

“Who will do this? I think I am one of the savins. He says.

Kittens Gone Wild — and Viral

Brantley, who found the kittens near her home in Forest, Louisiana, said: ‘I was really overwhelmed and wondered who could do such a thing and where they came from.

He had a feeling the kittens had been abandoned.

“Because of how clean they are, how friendly they are,” he said. “I was mainly wondering if there was another sibling out there.”

The video Brantley tagged with the hashtag #kittenambush quickly went viral, garnering more than a million views — and rave reviews.

“Aww bless your heart so many kittens that they know you can help them, you are like a cat whisperer,” said one.

“Thank you for not leaving them. Your kindness is something the world needs to see right now,” another said.

And, “Awwww!! I love how they all wait for you to take the bait then BOOM!!! You have a Catastrophe CAT on your hand. ”

Brantley is overflowing with advice on how to care for kittens. He sets up a tub at the children’s pool (kittens) and goes to work cleaning the babies. Then visited the vet, who said the kittens – two litters – were very young.

Right purr

All but one of the kittens are in good condition.

That one, now named Champ, was medically far behind the others.

“He just had a few problems,” Brantley said. “Some parasites and some sores, and he couldn’t eat but was still walking. You know he’ll make it but it looks like he needs a little help. He is doing very well. “

The kitten brave enough to ask for help is named Scout, and the oldest of the bunch is Ruby Jean.

Brantley and his wife Courtney have housed most of the kittens, taking care to ensure they are placed in good homes. They will add Scout and Ruby Jean to their family, which includes four kids and a dog, Codi Pig, a puppy. Catahoula Cur who played mother with kittens.

Brantley’s kids are overjoyed that Scout and Ruby Jean will stay with the family.

“They love them and it’s a good responsibility for them,” Brantley said.

Brantley has been amazed with all the attention his kitten rescue has received.

“The support everyone has given has been overwhelming and wonderful,” he said.

People sent money as well as food and supplies.

“We want to make sure it’s all used properly,” Brantley said. “I think right now we’re going overboard on what we need to do this.”

Brantley said he’s had a number of locals reach out to him asking for help with the kittens, and he’s been helping with donations.

“We will continue to do that,” he said. “But (the attention) created more momentum than I ever thought possible, especially at the local level, because we are in a rural area, a poor area, so it is not surprising to see saw kittens and puppies stranded,” he said.

Brantley and his wife Courtney are using social media to promote the importance of ingenuity and hard work.

“People don’t think and talk like they should,” he said.

Always an animal lover

Brantley said he’s always been an animal guy.

Growing up, his family had a herd of pets and animals including donkeys, goats, cows, pigeons, peacocks and chickens.

“My grandmother had a lot of cats, and then my mother, she was always a cat lover and a small dog,” he said. “I have had several cats over the years, but I have traveled a lot, a cat has never been a good pet for me, but I have always loved them. I’m more of a stay-at-home relative now, which would be perfect for us. ”

Brantley is now known as a cat whisperer, and since he and little Scout have developed a special bond, he’s also become a cat dad.
