No one can doubt the bravery of a warrior. Fighter actually puts their lives in line every time they enter the ring (or octagon). So no, boxers aren’t afraid to fight, at least not in combat sports. However, former lightweight queen Vasyl Lomachenko has gone a step further, returning to his despised homeland of Ukraine to do his part for his country. Last week, rumors surfaced that Loma, as he is known, could receive a permit from the Ukrainian government to face football player George Kambosos on June 5. That has been proven untrue. true, as it has now been made clear that Loma will remain in Ukraine as the bloody Russian invasion continues.
“We have nothing but the utmost respect for his decision,” ESPN quote Kambosos promoter, Lou Dibella, as said. “Kambosos wanted to make sure that after we made that deal that Lomachenko had plenty of time to decide. Meanwhile, Kambosos, who surprised a lot of people by defeating Lomachenko conqueror Teofimo Lopez last November, has his eyes on another notable opponent. Now, no longer likely. he will face Lomachenko in the near future, Kambosos’ eyes have turned to his lightweight teammate Devin Haney for a unifying battle Haney has wanted big competition for a while, and Kambosos , who is now seen as a giant killer, that’s for sure.
Haney is said to have been offered to take on the Kambosos on Monday. If that happens, the match will likely take place on June 5 at Marvel Stadium in Australia, home of the Kambosos. Needless to say, Haney and Kambosos engaged in Twitter jibes Monday, be it sincere, or possibly help build the fight. “Now Loma has a bigger fight,” Kambosos told Haney – via social media, of course – “which I fully respect, so let’s see how much of your word is true.” For his part, Haney made it clear Monday that he’s not eager to join the fight.
