Twitter commentators have spotted Liz Truss appearing to recreate an outfit worn by Margaret Thatcher to appear in the first debate about Tory leadership.
The foreign secretary wore a black blazer and white shirt with a big bow for Friday’s event, matching exactly what Former Prime Minister of the Conservative Party worn in a 1979 election broadcast.
Hundreds of people took to the social media platform to point out the striking similarity.
One tweet, which received more than 4,500 likes, said: “Liz Truss has recreated the look of Margaret Thatcher from her 1979 election down to the very last detail.”
Another joked: “Liz Truss Margaret Thatcher Posthumous Act is available for hire.”
Ms. Truss appeared alongside Tory leadership contenders Tom Tugendhat, Rishi Sunak, Kemi Badenoch and Penny Mordaunt for the Channel 4 debate, chaired by Krishnan Guru-Murthy.
When asked when she had stood up for integrity and honesty, Ms Truss said: “Of course, I’m on Boris Johnson’s side, I’ve raised private issues with him, but I support him. him for the leadership election.
