LiveWire S2 Del Mar will be among the cheapest of Harley-Davidson


The LiveWire S2 Del Mar will hit dealerships this summer, just in time for the electric two-wheeler to have fun in the sun. Deliveries are expected to begin in July in the United States, where the LiveWire S2 Del Mar will start at $15,499 and pre-orders start at $100. It’s an attractive price compared to the top LiveWire Onehas a starting price of US$22,799 and is a far cry from the original Harley-Davidson LiveWirewhat cost? nearly $30,000 at the time of release in 2019.

S2 Del Mar confirmed price is under $15.5k That’s exactly $500 more than LiveWire’s original estimate of $15,000, which is what the company said Del Mar would cost when it launched last year. LiveWire later adjusted Del Mar’s MSRP to $16,999, but has now dropped it to $1,500. Del Mar’s final price went through a series of ups and downs, but this price drop is welcome.

Right away, electric motorcycle – like theirs EV cousin on four wheels – there is a problem with the price. They simply cost too much compared to their ICE-equipped counterparts. So it’s good that Harley and LiveWire have managed to produce and price an e-bike half the price of Harley’s first foray into electric vehicles.

Of course, the much cheaper LiveWire S2 Del Mar will lack some of the range and features found on HD LiveWire, as well as that of LiveWire One. The Del Mar is said to lack DC fast charging, but will still charge 20 to 80 percent in 75 minutes using a Level 2 charger, each Bicycle world.

Official specs for the US model are yet to be fully revealed, but Bicycle world reports that the bike is capable of 110-mile range, will produce 184 lb-ft of torque, and sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds. The bike will also weigh 431 pounds, but there’s no word on seat height yet.

This will be the second LiveWire release since Harley-Davidson split the brand to create some distance between its old motorcycles, which feature huge internal combustion engines, and Harley’s latest bikes, which run on batteries and all-electric powertrains.

Why Harley feels the need to split the two technologies is anyone’s guess. Perhaps Harley is trying to isolate its core demographic in order to appease them and ensure rabid fans that no one will come for them. Milwaukee-Eights. Or, maybe Harley just wants to let LiveWire stand on its own two wheels and give the fledgling brand a wide path into the future.

And the lower price of the LiveWire S2 Del Mar bodes well for Harley’s future among new products and young riders who have mostly turned their backs on the brand. Make no mistake, electric cars from LiveWire could very well be the future of Harley-Davidson, according to CEO Jochen Zeitz he himself. When the S2 Del Mar hits dealers this July, it will be one of the cheapest machines in Harley’s portfolio, and one of the company’s newest and most promising machines.
