Live updates: Donald Trump indictment news

News outlets will not be allowed to broadcast old President Donald Trump’s accusations on Tuesday in a New York state court, a judge said Monday night, but he will allow some photographers to take pictures in the courtroom before formal proceedings begin.

Acting Judge of the New York Supreme Court Juan Mercan refuse request by several media organizations, including CNN, for permission to air the historic proceedings. Trump’s indictment — like most indictments in Manhattan courts — is a public proceeding, but news cameras are generally not allowed to broadcast from inside the courtroom.

However, the judge allowed the five pool photographers to take still images at the start of the proceedings “until they are asked by court personnel to leave the jury box.”

Earlier on Monday, Trump’s lawyers urged the judge to turn down media requests to film live in the courtroom. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office told the judge it had no position.

The media that tried to get cameras into the courtroom argued that “the seriousness of this proceedings cannot be overstated… and therefore the need to reach the public as widely as possible. ”

Trump is currently in Manhattan before impeachment. Grand jury indicts former president last week.

The impeachment is also expected to expose criminal charges against Trump, which are unknown to his lawyers or to the public.

The indictment stems from Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg investigation into hush payments, made during the 2016 presidential campaign, to women who claimed they had extramarital relations with Trump, which he denies.

Trump denies any wrongdoing and his lawyers last week said they would fight to fee reduction.
