Eddie Hearn has expressed his disappointment at Sky’s failure to cover Saturday’s fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano
DAZN became the new home for Matchroom Boxing in June 2021 when a five-year deal was agreed to end Hearn’s relationship with Sky.
Taylor made her professional debut on Sky in November 2016 and won her first world title in the seventh bout of her career. The Irish legend’s win over Tasha Jonas last May was her last match on Sky. On Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, the 35-year-old will defend her undisputed lightweight crown against Amanda Serrano live on DAZN. And while the world’s media flocked to The Big Apple Hearn, it was also aware of Sky’s absence.
“I don’t want to start saying something I might regret but since we made the move, they chose to ignore the fact that the biggest advertising agency in the world exists in boxing and I understand that because it’s a business, but this is something very different,” he said when speaking to Boxing Social’s Andi Purewal.
“This is a women’s sport; This is a historic moment not only in boxing but also in sports. Katie Taylor has been boxing on the Sky platform for a long time and they choose to really pretend it doesn’t exist. BBC is here, ITV is here, Bloomberg is here, CNN is here.
“It was interesting that when we were on Sky, I used to understand that they were going to promote all of boxing, but it was like we were a newspaper, we had to be impartial. Where is fairness now? But I also understand, there is competition and that in itself is good for boxing but very disappointed that they didn’t cover this because every other news site has.
“This is something I would expect them to do, especially as they invest in women’s sports.”
