On Thursday, Kia released multiple teaser images of the Concept EV9, which is expected to be revealed in full on November 17 at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show.
No details have been confirmed, but teaser images showing the boxy SUV shape were more hinted at in a first teaser released earlier this week. Viewing the interior also reveals a steering wheel and a large digital display. The EV9 nomenclature confirms that this concept previews one of the 11 electric cars Kia plans to add to its lineup by 2025, part of a $25 billion capital shift.
The first of those new electric cars will be Kia EV6, will reach dealers in the US later this year. This sleeker SUV crossover will available in all 50 states, Kia has previously confirmed. That hasn’t always been the case with previous Kia EVs, so the EV6 will likely be the automaker’s first truly mass-market EV in the US.

EV6 is related to Hyundai Ioniq 5, sharing the dedicated EV platform E-GMP. While details won’t be confirmed until the Concept EV9’s LA auto show is revealed, the concept is likely to use that platform as well.
Kia has said they will launch at least two other electric SUVs alongside the EV6 in 2025. So the Concept EV9 could preview one of them.

Kia’s parent company Hyundai also plans to introduce a larger electric SUV in the future as a concept at the 2021 LA auto show. Hyundai Seven concept will preview the Ioniq 7 and has revealed a more rounded roofline compared to the Kia concept. The Hyundai concept model is also scheduled to debut on November 17, while the production Hyundai Ioniq 7 is scheduled to debut in 2024.
