According to police chief Negeri Sembilan Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof, the Kajang–Seremban Expressway (LEKAS Expressway) was identified by Mat Rempit as the popular weekly “courage race”. Recently, a group of Mat Rempit were videotaped performing stunts and participating in illegal racing on the route, killing 1 person and injuring 9 others.

According to the report of Harian Metro Station, Ahmad Dzaffir revealed two fatal accidents have happened on LEKAS in 2023 so far. The highway spans 44.3 km, starting at Kajang Perdana in Selangor and passing through Nilai and Seremban before ending at Paroi in Negeri Sembilan.

“Besides the North-South Expressway (NSE), the LEKAS highway is one of the locations identified as Mat Rempit’s choice. The LEKAS highway passes through the state (Negeri Sembilan) from KM13.7 to KM43,” said Ahmad Dzaffir.

“During the period from January (2023) until yesterday (July 11, 2023), a total of 127 accidents were reported, of which two involved Mat Rempit. Both are fatal crashes with one life each,” he added.

Realizing the situation, Ahmad Dzaffir said the police made various efforts to refrain from these illegal activities. “This year alone, 11 activities, especially Op Cegah Samseng Jalanan, were conducted along the route. A total of 444 summons were issued for various violations involving motorcyclists. Meanwhile, 20 motorcycles have been impounded from the operation, with one individual arrested for violating Section 42(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1987,” he revealed.

Passing a “zig-zag” (rolling through traffic) is considered reckless and dangerous driving and is a violation of the Road Traffic Act 1987. If convicted, the rider or driver could be subject to a fine. imprisonment of up to 5 years as well as a fine of not less than RM5 000 and not exceeding RM 15,000. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, the punishment is even more severe, with prison sentences not exceeding 10 years and fines ranging from RM10,000 to RM20,000.
