Lamar Jackson’s Illness: Ravens QB Explains Why He Can’t Play Week 11 Against the Bears



Going into the Ravens’ Week 11 game against the Bears, it was assumed that Lamar Jackson would be able to play for Baltimore.

Jackson missed Wednesday and Thursday rehearsals due to illness. He returned to training on Friday and his full participation designation seems to suggest that he is fit and ready to compete.

Jackson even told reporters after practice that he “felt great” and noted that his illness was no big deal.

“The reality is I don’t usually get sick,” Jackson said after Friday’s rehearsal, ESPN. “I used to eat Flintstone smoothies when I was a kid. My immune system must be good.”

However, things changed rapidly for Jackson on Saturday. He has relapsed of his illness and is considered “50-50” for the game. He ended up having to sit out due to a terrible illness. Tyler Huntley begins in place of Jackson and led Raven to a 16-13 win over the Bears.

Jackson is planning to fight the Browns. He’s been in full training for Raven every day of this week and has no injury designation in Sunday night’s game against the Browns.

“Feel good!” Jackson told reporters when asked about his condition at Wednesday’s training session. “This time I feel great. I’m back, feeling good. I’m optimistic. No recurrence, man, we’re good.”

It’s always been assumed that Jackson will miss just one game, and it looks like he’s on his way back for “Sunday Night Football.”

Jackson did not disclose exactly what kind of illness he had, but he did talk about the symptoms he has faced. Jackson explains they include chills, night sweats and fatigue.

“I have no clue [what happened],” Jackson said, according to the official Ravens . website. “I’m just tired, a little chilled, it’s gone. … I’m trying to rest, trying to recover and get better and I’m just sweating in my sleep.”

Jackson has faced a number of illnesses during the 2021 NFL season. He also dealt with his second wave of COVID-19 during the early stages of training camp, so he’s been pretty sick for five months. via.

Is that normal for Jackson? No, but he wasn’t too worried about what was going on. Raven’s quartet is making his recent illnesses more unlucky than anything else.

“It happens, but I’m not worried about it,” Jackson said. “I’ve been healthy all my life. I’ve never had an illness problem until I’ve been here, so I don’t really know what that is. Hopefully that’s over.”
