A retiring lace-maker from one of many final British producers of its type has been recalling his position within the crafting of the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding ceremony gown.
Ian Palfreyman, 72, from Sawley, Derbyshire, has labored as a twist hand – any person who operates machines – at Cluny Lace in Ilkeston, producing Nottingham lace for greater than 56 years.
Cluny’s is the final producer of Leavers Lace – a conventional machine-made lace – within the nation.
