Kyla Pratt and EJ Johnson in The Proud Family Reboot

Allow us to take you down the memory lane. When you were young, can you recall a moment that you felt you saw? Maybe it’s when you have to wear what you want to school, or maybe it’s when you watch a cartoon and recognize a character for the first time. Art has always held the unique power to provide individuals with a means of expression and expression to the full breadth of the human being. And no other children’s series has done it like Proud Family. It goes without saying that the Disney animated series has been an icon in its own right. It is the network’s first animated series that follows the lives of a faultless Black family as they navigate the world. And while the representation at this point, it feels as though it’s part of the cultural chat forever, when this series aired in 2001, that was not the case. Few characters, fewer cartoon characters, have explored the Black Community. In many ways, This series fostered a culture of growth through its teenage protagonist Penny Proud and her boisterous representation of family life, religion, and race.

Considering how iconic this series is, it’s only a matter of time before an in-order reboot, an activity we wholeheartedly welcome. In February, the first episode of Proud Family: Bigger and Prouder was released on Disney+ with an all-star cast, including Keke Palmer and Billy Porter. So when we were offered the chance to talk to the cast about the reboot, we obviously jumped at the opportunity. Up front, you’ll hear from Kyla Pratt (aka Penny Proud) and EJ Johnson (aka Michael Collins) about why this reboot is more important than ever, the careers of them and how loud and proud life means to them.
