MATCH PREFERENCE
Lucknow Super Giants already have a foot in the knockout stages of the Indian Premier League and when the team led by KL Rahul meet Kolkata Knight Riders at DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday, they will be aiming for a spot in top four.
Currently ranked third with 16 points, Lucknow has lost their last two matches – against the Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals – and captain Rahul admits there is “a bit of pressure” going through.
In their last two games, those who beat Lucknow have struggled in Powerplay and the team will mostly depend on Rahul and Quinton de Kock to regain their contact. While the middle order was reinforced by Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni needed to be consistent.

For the Knights too, it was a must-win match. However, even with a win against the Super Giants, KKR can only qualify for the knockout round if both Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals lose their matches against the Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians.
But keeping the calculations aside, KKR aims to beat Lucknow and for that they pin their hopes on Andre Russell’s all-around ability. With Ajinkya Rahane being ruled out of the tournament due to injury, KKR’s top ranking depends on how Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana play against Lucknow’s pacemakers – Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan.
In the absence of Pat Cummins, Umesh Yadav and Tim Southee will lead KKR bowling, while Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy’s spin duo need to be present.
