Kitasan Black Heads ’24 Shadai Stallion Station Roster


The Shadai Corporation, which manages stallions standing at Shadai Stallion Station, released its’ stallion roster for the 2024 breeding season.

The most notable fee increase on the roster belonged to the sire of Japan Cup (G1) hero Equinox , Kitasan Black . The two-time JRA Horse of the Year, who stood for ¥10,000,000 in 2023, was doubled to ¥20,000,000 (approximately US$132,776), sporting the highest stud fee on the 2024 Shadai roster.

Kitasan Black stood his first season at Shadai in 2018 for a fee of ¥5,000,000. Equinox, the world-highest rated horse in 2023, came from the stallion’s first crop while this year’s Satsuki Sho (G1) winner Sol Oriens came from his second crop. Kitasan Black covered 242 mares in 2023.

The fee for this year’s leading first crop sire Suave Richard  also received a considerable jump for 2024, climbing from ¥3,000,000 in 2023 to ¥15,000,000 (US$99,582).

2020 Japanese Triple Crown winner Contrail, represented by his first weanlings this year, also had a fee increase for 2024, going from ¥2,000,000 to ¥15,000,000. The stallion’s first foals sold for an average of ¥128,600,000 (US$902,710) at this year’s Foal Session of the JHRA Select Sale in July.

The fees of Kizuna  and Lord Kanaloa  are unchanged at ¥12,000,000 while the fee for Epiphaneia  was reduced from ¥18,000,000 in 2023 to ¥15,000,000 for 2024.
