The Kia Sorento PHEV 2025 with improved styling and technology to match the Sorento’s standards and Sorento HybridBut its actual cost has increased significantly since the plug-in hybrid model was launched three years ago.
Kia announced Tuesday that the 2025 Sorento PHEV will price $49,365 with a mandatory $1,375 destination charge. That’s for the base EX trim; an SX Prestige model is also available, starting at $54,465 including destination. The SX Prestige is the only trim level available for the 2024 model year, when it will start at $51,655. Neither trim is eligible for the federal EV tax credit.
Sorento PHEV to launch in 2022 with a base price of $46,165. But it also qualifies as Tax Credit $6,587 (At the time, the credit was based largely on battery pack size) which reduced the effective price to $39,578 for buyers who qualified for the tax credit.
Kia Sorento 2025 plug-in hybrid
While not every buyer will be able to take advantage of the tax credit when it becomes available, the price of the Sorento PHEV is now $10,000 higher when factoring in the 2025 model’s price increase and the loss of the tax credit.
For the 2025 model year, the Sorento PHEV will get the same facelift as the Sorento Hybrid, which was first applied to non-hybrid Sorento models in 2024, with the highlight being a more prominent grille.
Inside, the SX Prestige now gets a curved panoramic display that combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen, while the base EX gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen with a standalone instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on both trims, with a digital key feature on SX Prestige models. Adaptive cruise control, which Kia claims can learn driving styles, is also now available, as is its Highway Driving Assist 2 system.

The powertrain, which consists of a 1.6-liter turbo-4 and a six-speed automatic transmission paired with an electric motor and a 13.8-kwh battery pack, with standard all-wheel drive, remains unchanged. It will likely produce the same 261 horsepower as before, and Kia expects 30 miles electric range.
Buyers don’t have many other options for similarly sized plug-in hybrid crossovers. The Sorento’s sibling, the Hyundai Santa Fe, is getting a major update for 2024, but there’s no word on the return of the plug-in hybrid. Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe It’s more capable but less efficient, with an EPA-rated electric range of 26 miles and a combined fuel economy of 23 mpg after using a plug-in charger.
