As Gen Z, the celebs whose style I draw inspiration from can be a bit obvious. Zoe Kravitz, Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber are the trio you often see on my mood board. However, a less obvious option? Katie Holmes. Before working at Who What Wear, her style was not something I paid much attention to. Instead of Dawson’s CreekI’m much busier with fascination watches One tree hill and Gilmore Girls. Her style may not be as flashy or revealing as other celebs, but it’s the way she always looks comfortable and put together that catches everyone’s eye – including mine.
Holmes doesn’t just create casual looks cool, but her lackluster looks never seem to be “out of date”. She’s mastered the balance between mix trends and the basics, so much so that I find myself wanting to recreate her looks from previous years, assuming they’re from 2022. She also has a accessible element to her look — mixing statement pieces from Bottega Veneta and Khaite with selections by Mango and J.Crew. Everything she wears feels wearable, which is refreshing amidst the luxuries of celebrity style.
I’m not the only Gen Z-er to notice Holmes as I’ve come across a few TikToks talking about her best looks. I’m not surprised, as her former stylist Alison Bornstein has become TikTok’s favorite style inspiration with her popularity. “three-word method.”
