Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, has been banned from performing at the 2022 Grammy Awards due to “online-related conduct,” according to a spokesperson for the controversial artist.
The Recording Academy’s decision came days after Ye spoke out about racial slurs Daily program presenter Trevor Noah, who is scheduled to host the annual music awards ceremony next month. It also comes after months of Ye’s repeated abusive and inappropriate messages directed at ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her partner, comedian Pete Davidson.
Explosion was the first to report the news on Friday, followed by confirmed by one of Ye’s representatives.
You are Nominated for five Grammy Awards this year, including Album of the Year for Donda – which he named after his late mother – and the best rap song for “Jail”. So far, the prolific artist has won 22 Grammy Awards and has a total of 75 nominations.
Earlier this week, the 44-year-old was suspended from Instagram for a day after calling Noah a racist name – in violation of the platform’s policies on hate speech, bullying and harassment.
In one part on Tuesday, Daily program The presenter has spoken out against the rapper’s recent aggressive behavior towards Kardashian, with whom he shares four children. Noah thinks Ye’s behavior should not be ridiculed and calls his efforts to win the Kardashian back “becoming more and more belligerent.”
“You probably don’t feel sorry for Kim because she’s rich and famous,” says Noah. “But what she went through is terrifying to watch and highlights what so many women go through when they choose to leave.”
Ye responded to Noah’s comments with a now-deleted post on the social media platform, writing alternate lyrics for “Kumbaya” that included a racial symbol.
The record producer was fired for releasing an unsettlingly animated music video for his single, “Eazy.” The song includes the lyrics, “God saved me from this crash / Just so I could beat Pete Davidson a**.” In the clay-molding video, Ye is kidnapped and brutally dismembered of a character who resembles Davidson. It was released the same day that Kardashian was declared legally single on March 2.
Throughout the controversies, Ye has insisted that he is using his art to work through his emotions and that he is just trying to reunite his family.
