Chrysler sold PT Cruisers in the United States for 2001 by 2010 model years, with sales strong at first and then gradually declining as the 21st century began and the novelty of the original classic style wore off. Because it was based on Dodge/Plymouth NeonPerformance parts were available for the PT Cruiser; eventually, an aftermarket for body kits and other exterior modifications emerged. Today Scrapyard Gems To be an early PT Cruiser has received a few tweaks throughout its life, having been found at a San Francisco Bay auto junkyard last fall.
Turbocharged GT version The five-speed manual transmission didn’t arrive until the 2003 model year, but the five-speed manual was available for the entire PT Cruiser production run. In fact, it would have cost $825 more ($1,465 in 2024 dollars) with the four-speed automatic.
Starting in 2002, a factory “Ghost Rider” Flame Pack available for the PT Cruiser. Cost: $495 (equivalent to $879 today). This car has it.
There is a chrome fuel filler door.
The bulky front bumper was removed and the hood was replaced with a functional replacement unit.
This is a Good Fiberglass Hood, made by Keystone Restyling in Pennsylvania. It appears these hoods are no longer in production, though. The list is still live at Summit Racing.. Note California Air Resources Board Certification The sticker allows the car to pass California’s stringent emissions tests.
There is one Airaid cold air intake system under the hood, there must have been a few extra horses. Airaid no longer makes this PT Cruiser, but it’s possible find a used one on eBay.
The car appeared to be in good condition when it arrived, so we can assume some expensive mechanical parts were damaged.
