When Volkswagen – after decades of delays aggravated by the enormous cost of the Sparkarte payments and Sue Tatra arising from Origin of the Type 1 Beetle – finally began mass production of water-cooled automobiles, 1973 Passat (called Dasher on our shores) was the first to roll off the assembly line. Completely new Golf aka rabbit appeared the following year, and with it a In the style of Giugiaro incurred. That car was a Scirocco, and I found one of those first-generation machines at a self-service yard in the Denver area.
By 1979, Scirocco had to compete with Japanese sports coupes such as Datsun 310GX and Honda Preludenot to mention 128 Sport Hatchback and even Brava two doors from Fiat. American Motors even offers an AMX-ized version of Spirit, beats the Scirocco on price and comes with a high-torque six engine. However, Scirocco was selling well here around that time.
This car is rusted in common places, in addition, it is often smashed.
