José Rueda finishes JuniorGP championship in Misano
FIM JuniorGP World Championship 2022
Round 6 – Misano World Circuit
Jose Antonio Rueda won his first Finetwork FIM JuniorGP world championship after a frantic 17-lap encounter at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on Saturday afternoon.
Aspar Junior Team’s Filippo Farioli was the first overall winner of his career, but second place for Rueda was good enough to see the 16-year-old crowned as the JuniorGP World Champion.
Eligible
David Salvador (Laglisse Academy) starts at pole for the first time in the 2022 Finetwork FIM JuniorGP world championship season after fixing 1:42,526 in QP1 to beat title chaser Jose Antonio Rueda (Estrella Galicia 0.0) for 0.278 seconds. Angel Piqueras turned it into two Team Estrella Galicia 0.0 machines in the front row after improving late in QP2 to take P3 from second place in the Syarifudin Azman Championship (SIC Racing).
Rueda’s teammate, Piqueras, gave him a small benefit by knocking Azman down to P4 on the grid at the end of qualifying, when the Malaysian missed P3 by just 0.059 seconds.
2022 race winners David Alonso (Aspar Junior Team) and Colin Veijer (AGR Team) complete the second row of the grid to make it a fascinating front few rows for Saturday’s spectacle.
JuniorGP Race
Laglisse Academy’s David Salvador managed to concede a shot from his first post but was quickly threatened by man of form, Rueda. The Spaniard headed into Round 2 and sought to assert his dominance, but his closest title rivals would not allow him to escape. Instead, a group match started when JuniorGP entered a program alongside the MotoGP World Championship.
The lap passed with Rueda leading before an unwarranted error from the Championship leaders with 12 remaining gave Salvador the advantage. His mistake on turn 13 also allowed teammate Angel Piqueras (Estrella Galicia 0.0) to go second. Piqueras will then attack Salvador into the opening corner for the first time.
The 15-year-old Valencian racer has clearly pushed to the limit, exceeding the track limit in consecutive laps at the exit of Turn 10. He was given a track limit warning before running very wide for the third time, on this occasion in penultimate position. corner, to earn himself a Long Lap penalty and give Husqvarna’s Salvador the lead.
With four rounds left and now Rueda in the lead, Piqueras dashed into the Long Penalty round and came back in ninth. At the front, Farioli was dropped to fifth after an error of his own. However, he started fighting again with three rounds remaining, first getting past Adrian Cruces (Cuna de Campeones) in Round 10. He then pressed into the inner ring of Syarifuddin Azman (Estrella Galicia Team 0, 0) shortly after on Turn 14 to contend for the win on his own.
Only two laps left now as Farioli headed for the first time thanks to a perfectly executed move. He finished right in third before ramping up, putting his GASGAS to good use and sliding his way ahead of both Rueda and Salvador before they braked into the opening corner. Piqueras is now seventh and second only to the top six thanks to the new fastest lap.
Farioli took the lead out of the last corner in penultimate time with Salvador poised to strike in second and Rueda looking to be crowned King in third. Piqueras, meanwhile, has somehow been fighting for fifth place and is right in the hunt for a podium finish. Rueda, unhappy with finishing in third, won late in Round 8 and found his way past Salvador, but the pair went wide to allow tough Piqueras to go with them. The trio are three steps on the road to Round 10, with Rueda taking the lead to sit second.
Farioli kept his composure in the final zone to take the checkered flag and win his debut JuniorGP in just 0.035 seconds. Rueda missed out on his sixth win of the season but didn’t care one bit as the Sevilla native wrapped up the 2022 Finetwork FIM JuniorGP World Championship. Piqueras’ remarkable run of recovery was completed by crossing the third line.
In the end, Salvador was forced to place fourth, ahead of Luca Lunetta of AC Racing Team and Azman of Malaysia. Completing the match in the top 7 in just 3/4 seconds is Spain’s Cruces. Tatchakorn Buasri of Honda Racing Thailand crossed the line in a solitary eighth place, before the top 10 was filled by Alberto Ferrandez (Finetwork MIR Racing Team) and Jakob Rosenthaler (Liqui Moly Intact GP Junior Team).
Australia’s Jacob Roulstone finished in 19th place after another driver got ahead of him, pushing him down the rankings.
Jacob Roulstone – P19
“Through freestyle practice and qualifying, I tried to continue to close the gap with the previous runners. Qualifying at P24, I got off to a great start in P16 but the rider directly in front of me at a high position once again avoided the crash and almost dropped me behind. ! Pushing the whole race, I tried to get up to fight in group 6 for potential championship points but couldn’t manage to get ahead. Finally, after a few fights, I finished P19. Although not satisfied with the end result, I am confident that without the collision in front of me, I would have been able to fight in the top 15, which gives me confidence to go to Motorland Aragon next lap. Thank you to Dani, Santi, Patas and Nico as well as all my team, sponsors and supporters. And congratulations to my teammate, Filippo Farioli on the first win of the series. “
