Veteran and respected British broadcaster Johnny Nelson knows his boxing. Not only is he a notable presence in the sport, he’s also a longtime WBO world cruiser title holder. When Nelson speaks, people listen. That’s why his words about former heavyweight champion athlete Deontay Wilder, were uttered during a bout. iFLTV This week’s interview, has been noted. “Deontay Wilder said he was going back to boxing,” Nelson said. “I still doubt it, and the reason why I still doubt it is because Deontay still fights with a lot of pride involved, so I think the fight with Tyson Fury really hurt self-esteem. his dignity.” Sure enough, Fury beat Wilder in his third fight last fall, leaving no doubt as to who was the better boxer.
For Nelson, however, it’s not just a loss to Fury (Wilder’s second in a row) that will keep Wilder out of the game. “He was not a fan of our sport,” continued Nelson, “so when he was out, he was out. He doesn’t watch all of this and he’s a very rich man so it’s about motivation. “Nelson went on to point out that Wilder isn’t the only fighter to find himself in such a position. “How many fights has he fought since losing to Anthony Joshua? Is it one?” he said.
However, Nelson has made it clear that a crushing defeat to Fury’s gloved hand will be the main reason the upset American boxer is not coming back. “I’m not saying that (money and lack of passion) made a difference for Deontay Wilder,” he said. “What makes the difference is the fact that the character that he believed in himself to be the ugliest man on the planet is now broken and that’s what kept him going, so , now knowing he’s not the ugliest man on the planet and having all those millions to go back to, he thinks he doesn’t need to do this. ”
While it’s true that Wilder may be the hardest heavyweight to hit in history, he seems to have met his fight at Fury. The first matchup between the two men was a draw that sent Fury off the mat to escape being scored by the referee in the final round. The second game saw Fury turn surprisingly aggressive under the guidance of new coach Sugar Hill Steward. The Englishman won the rematch when Wilder’s corner hit the towel. The third battle was a great skirmish that saw both men on mats. However, Fury became too much for Wilder and caused Wilder to be disqualified. The fighter known as the “Bronze Bomber” has not fought professionally since then.
