Jio 5G is NOT for Xiaomi India’s first 5G smartphone? Check the supported list of all Xiaomi, Redmi devices

Xiaomi and Jio have announced compatible devices on the Jio 5G SA network. Xiaomi Mi 10 and Xiaomi Mi 10i are excluded from the list.

Jio 5G does not appear on all Xiaomi 5G devices? Xiaomi and Reliance Jio recently published a list of all supported devices from Xiaomi’s portfolio that will support Jio’s standalone 5G network. In its official press release, Xiaomi India has listed all the devices that support Jio’s 5G network and they include almost all the recently announced 5G models. Almost all 5G-enabled models from 2022 are included in the list, and so are models from 2021. There are two obvious shortcomings here.

Back in 2020, Xiaomi India launches its first 5G smartphone to the market, which also helps it enter the premium segment smartphone market. The device is Mi 10 5G and uses compatible 5G Snapdragon 865 Chips. The spec sheet also mentions support for both SA and NSA 5G networks. A year later, Xiaomi also announced the Mi 10i in India with 5G network support at a much more affordable price.

However, these two devices are not on the list of supported devices on Jio 5G.

The first Xiaomi 5G phone in India does not support Jio 5G?

“The SA network enabled models have received a software update to work seamlessly on Reliance Jio’s True 5G SA network. Supported devices include Mi 11 Ultra 5G, Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G, Xiaomi 11T Pro 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G, Redmi Note 11T 5G, Redmi 11 Prime 5G, Redmi Note 10T 5G, Mi 11X 5G, Mi 11X Pro 5G, Redmi K50i 5G, Xiaomi 11i 5G and Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G,” the official statement said.

The oldest device on the list is the Redmi Note 10T. Surprisingly there is no mention of Xiaomi Mi 10 and Xiaomi Mi 10i. HT Tech contacted Xiaomi India for clarification and the spokesperson mentioned, “Device listing was mentioned in the release.”

This is surprising given that the Mi 10i and Mi 10 are sold with the promise of support for all 5G networks globally. The Mi 10 is also a flagship model and it definitely deserves to be on the list. The specs page for the Mi 10 lists SA 5G network support while the Mi 10i doesn’t mention anything like that.

The standalone network that Jio is using is not based on older 4G LTE infrastructure and uses only 5G equipment. This allows for faster data rates at the expense of connection reliability. Airtel is using an NSA network in which they rely on 4G LTE infrastructure to provide a reliable 5G experience.
