Jermell Charlo discusses potential fight with Crawford or Spence

Unified Super Junior Champion Jermell Charlo says he will fight Terence Crawford.

The owner of three belts at 154lbs is just over a few weeks away from a rematch with WBO champion Brian Castaño for the undisputed crown at 154lbs.

Crawford, who holds the WBO welterweight belt and could face Charlo’s gym teammate Errol Spence Jr for all 147lb marbles later this year, has hinted that he’ll switch to a weight division in the future.

Winning the world championship in ultralight would make him a fourth-weight champion.

Speaking at a media roundtable yesterday, Charlo was asked if he would face the winner of the fight between Spence Jr and Crawford.

“I have no intention of fighting my steady friend (Spence). Terence Crawford could get the job. I don’t care about him. I don’t know him, and he doesn’t know me either. We can do that. But when you’re emotionally attached to someone, it’s like fighting my twin.

“Now like Spence said, if the money is right, and you put that brick bread out there, we’re going in with anybody. We won’t turn anyone down, neither will Spence. But Crawford has yet to do anything at 154. How do you want him to play against me? I’m trying to be undisputed right now. How are we talking about someone who hasn’t even fought in the division? How did he just jump from there to there? ”

Charlo and Castaño battled out a highly entertaining draw in their first encounter last July. Their rematch takes place May 14 at Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson.
