Jermall Charlo approaches Dmitry Bivol for the heavyweight bout

WBC middleweight Jermall Charlo approached WBA lightweight Dmitry Bivol on Saturday night at the Regis Prograis-Jose Zepeda match in Carson, California. The exchange was recorded on video by anti-hype. The short, seemingly informal conversation involves Charlo wanting to meet Bivol in a hot weight class for what is sure to be a big fight. However, Bivol has made it clear that he doesn’t want to lose weight to fight Charlo without a belt. Credit Charlo for moving forward, but it’s hard to imagine Bivol would bite at this point in his career.
Charlo brought up the fact that his match against Bivol would still be a big event with or without the belt. Of course, he’s right, but Bivol doesn’t bite. “No belt,” said Charlo. “Just the attraction. Let’s do it.” Without a doubt, a Charlo-Bivol fight would certainly be interesting. However, Bivol appeared satisfied with the way he was going. And why wouldn’t he? After all, this guy overtook Canelo Alvarez in career crowning earlier this year, on top of that, the man recently overtook Zurdo Ramirez and now appears to be heading for a title fight. light heavyweight champion with difficult compatriot Dmitry Bivol.
As for Charlo, the 32-year-old boxer has not been in the professional ring for nearly a year and a half. The Houston native’s last fight was in June 2021. He faced Juan Macias Montiel that night, winning a unanimous decision in front of the hometown crowd. However, since that time, Charlo has been almost absent from the ring. With that said, Charlo has made it clear that he intends to fight next year. It doesn’t look like he’ll be going up against Bivol, at least not anytime in the near future.
