Mark Meadows – will he answer the question?
The cat-and-mouse game with former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows continues. Representative Adam Schiff, a California Democrat who is a member of the House select committee, told CNN over the weekend that the committee will decide “this week” on whether it will indict Meadows for criminal contempt for defying a subpoena earlier this month. to flip documents or appear to deposit.
Former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark earlier this month protested against the House selection committee, responding to subpoenas asking him to appear for a panel interview, but did not respond to questions asked out for him, sources familiar with his appearance told CNN at the time.
Democratic Representative Pete Aguilar of California, another member of the committee, told CNN’s Jim Acosta on Saturday that Meadows still has “a small window where he can still be compliant here… But if he fails to comply, the committee has made it very clear, as we did with Steve Bannon, that we are prepared to use whatever means are necessary.”
Committee members said recently that many of the questions to Meadows had nothing to do with Trump himself and that they would not be the subject of a controversy over executive privilege.
Aguilar previously told CNN of Meadows: “His conversations were about stopping a free and fair election, about criticizing and stopping the electoral roll, about his coordination. He was with campaign officials on private devices that weren’t turned over, all those matters were not privileges deserved and he had some explaining to do.”
