NSW Treasurer and Minister for Energy Matt Kean said the Transmission Accelerator Facility will be fast-tracking Renewable energy zones (REZs) needed to replace existing power plants when they end up funding the development stages of transmission lines and other infrastructure.
“We want to make sure every home and business across NSW has access to the cheapest and most reliable form of energy,” he said.
“That’s exactly why we spent $1.2 billion to make sure we can connect wind and solar into the system.”
Chris Gambian from NCC wants lines to go underground in critical sensitive areas like Alpine National Park, but argues that the transition to clean energy is fundamentally good for the environment.
“One of the best things we can do to move away from dirty fossil fuels is to invest in clean renewable energy,” he said.
