It’s the port I’ve always dreamed of, but can the Switch deliver the Batman we all need?

Soapbox features allow our writers and individual contributors to voice their opinions on hot topics and random stuff they’ve mulled over. TodayBatfan Gavin basically ponders whether the Switch can handle that many Arkhams…

Fair warning, DC fans. I’m the typical ’80s kid that Keaton, Burton Batmobile and Elfman represent the archetypes, the high water signs by which all other crusaders, autos, and cloaked composers are measured. measure. I can’t say where I am on the Batman fan scale – I’m not a fan of the comics, so that might get me a maximum of 5/10 in some people’s book – but I do own a Lego Batmobile, a Burton movie in 4K, an animated series on Bluray and Murder joke. Pff, yes, I’m one of them other things everybody.

metal gears enthusiasts may disagree, but upcoming appearance of the game Arkham on Switch is one of the biggest announcements of Nintendo’s June 2023 Live for me. Not only do they represent the culmination of Batman’s long career in interactive entertainment, but they’re also excellent video games even when you remove the fantasy element of the power of League of Legends. Kevin Conroy’s shadow musician and vocal talent that many have missed. I’ve never played the third item exactly, but the first two are chronographs; In superhero video game terms, it’s simply not much better.

However, it’s the third entry on Rocksteady’s list of fame Batman Arkham trilogy which gives me reason to pause. The moment in the live reveal trailer (see below), it’s clear this is Arkham and with a grin I wonder if it’s just Asylum or if the city of Arkham could also come After all, City has launched on the Wii U, so the Switch should be able to handle it. Maybe one Back to Arkham port with first tw—

‘EXPERIENCE TRIAL AWARDS’ flashes on the screen. Actually?! No pointless ‘Cloud Edition’? A full, proper, dedicated Switch port for all three of them!?

YAAAAAS! Climb up…

That’s exactly what I wanted, but gave Knight Arkhamits scope and the reputation it enjoyed in 2015, concerns began to arise in my mind. The ominous ‘GAME SECTION IS NOT THE FINAL’ at the end didn’t help.

For those who don’t remember Arkham Knight’s wobbly launch, the PC version of the game dominated the dreaded ‘controversy’ in mid-2015. Often regarded as an ambitious and compelling epilogue. of the series, the Batmobile installments and the overall feel of bulkiness received many mild criticisms. However, the technical struggles of the Windows version were so severe that Warner Bros. remove it from sale for a few months.

In fact, the performance on the console is impressively, but PC crashes are my lasting memory of Arkham Knight. Even with that discount, it’s still practically a third game built specifically for Xbox One and PS4 and not their predecessors, and a game in its open-world style and scope. exactly what to quickly stretch the more than seven-year-old Switch + mobile chipsets to breaking point. It will take a very brave and daring team to tackle this particular port.

Then who took on the Arkham Knights? As revealed by the logo at the end of the trailer — just above the game footage disclaimer — it’s Turn Me Up, an LA-based studio that’s been on good form in the Switch port arena. The team took care of it It takes two, Tony Hawk’s pro skater 1+2, Borderlands Legend Collection, Journey to the Savage Planet — all very solidly on Nintendo’s handheld hybrid. Reading the list of credits gives me hope.

Rocksteady himself is busy with much delay suicide squad on other platforms. I haven’t followed its progress too closely (I’m Batfan 5/10), but from a distance, it seems to demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of what has made the Arkham games so popular: the attraction of being Batman. I have no interest in wandering around Gotham as Deadshot or the other team members, but maybe that’s just me. The coolest news I know about that game is that Kevin Conroy’s Batman will be in it. As with Sony’s recent Spider-Man hits, it’s the attention of the more casual fanbase — you know, Just-Read-The-Killing-Joke fans – that the game Arkham has done such a great job of attracting. If this Switch port embodies the excellence of these games in a solid style, this bundle has the potential to become one of the best on the system.

However, that’s a pretty big ‘if’. ABOVE Turn Me Up Website You can find the following review of the Arkham Trilogy:

Leaving our fingerprints on such a beloved brand and honestly bringing it to the Switch is truly a privilege.

This is for Kevin.

This team seems to have the right attitude and technical talent to make a small Batmiracle, based on their past credits. This collection is truly the news that Dark Knight lovers who own the Switch have been dreaming of, and I can’t wait to jump into the Burtonmobile (as part of the bundled DLC) and play Arkham Knight for the first time.

Fingers crossed that Turn Me Up is up to the challenge, because it’s going to take a bunch of Switch-port superheroes if we’re to get the Batman we need.
