Is this the sound of Ferrari’s first electric car?

Ferrari’s first electric car (EV) will sound like… a V8?

Photo taken by spy photographer Wilco Blocks and uploaded to Instagram earlier this week revealed the prototype in all its camouflaged glory, and the corresponding video footage has now surfaced online courtesy of Imre Kovacs.

The clip shows an electric car slowly and quietly leaving the Ferrari factory in Maranello, but it’s the accompanying sound that caught our attention.

Despite its EV powertrain, the spied test car still emits a V8 roar – an aggressive sound that matches the faux quad exhausts protruding from the rear of the car.

Witnesses didn’t get a chance to hear the synthesized engine at its strongest, as the car glided discreetly at low revs.

A Ferrari prototype engine mock-up shows that the Italian carmaker is planning to incorporate internal combustion engine (ICE) features into its debut electric vehicle.

Ferrari representative has said before Car expert that any EV will always stay true to the brand’s values.

“Driving pleasure is the most important thing in our product portfolio and we measure driving pleasure in two ways,” said Emanuele Carando, Ferrari’s global marketing director.

“The easiest way is the smile of the customer every time they drive and get out of the car. [This is] The best indication of how fun it is to drive.

“But there is a more scientific approach to longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration, braking, gear shifting and sound. Those five are the most important factors that we evaluate and we build together to develop our cars.”

In addition to introducing electric power, the upcoming model will feature a new body style that slots between a hatchback and a shooting brake. It will have four doors, joining the Purosangue in the family-friendly Ferrari club.

Ferrari is not expected to launch its electric car until next year.
