Is the CCP’s Extinction Rebellion controllable? – Is it good?

A few blocks from Tiananmen Square, amid the splendor of the Beijing Hotel Convention Center, a series of high-ranking Communist Party officials assembled in September to declare a clear message: “Focus on cutting carbon emissions… China will promote green development, and continuously improve its ecosystem”. The annual meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) was in full swing.
Enthusiastic applause resounded throughout the auditorium, although that was unlikely. CCP-run conferences are often not marked by dissent, especially when they are attended by the likes of Xie Zhenhua, who led China’s delegation to Cop26, and the deputy prime minister. Han Zheng, one of the seven standing members of the Politburo, the Party’s Supreme Elites. Indeed, when the room is filled with eco-optimistic rhetoric, you can almost forget that China is the world’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions – and only coal-fired power plants are new in the world. Construction pipelines already have more capacity than the entire UK generating fleet. .
What was remarkable about this meeting, however, was the surprising presence of an outside delegation: joining the CCP apparatuses on a collection of screens scattered around the room were a number of people. England and other enthusiastic Westerners. According to the official workshop report, “foreign committee members and partners praised China’s ecological civilization building and its new and greater contributions in promoting the construction of a clean and beautiful world” .
Who are these people? Oddly enough, they include the real Ai of British, European and American climate activists.
